Miguel Vargas Highlights 3 Waiver Wire Additions Bringing Elite Value to Fantasy Baseball Lineups
If you’re looking to acquire some smart waiver wire pickups ahead of a new week in fantasy baseball, here are three alternatives you should consider in season-long leagues.
Miguel Vargas: A Long-Term Waiver Wire Target for the Chicago White Sox
There’s a chance Vargas won’t be available anymore in your league based on how good he’s been, but if he remains on the wire, he’s a player you should definitely target. Over the last seven days, Vargas has racked up three homers, five RBI, six runs scored, and a stolen base while hitting .286 with a 1.169 OPS.
The third baseman is emerging as a potential long-term piece for the White Sox and is having a career-best season in his second full season with the franchise. Even though he’s hitting just .230, his OPS is at .841, which is decidedly above average for the hot corner, and he’s already racked up nine homers, 22 RBI, 28 runs scored, and six stolen bases while posting an even 28:28 K:BB.
Vargas is rostered in around 60% of lineups overall, so he would be an excellent addition off the wire in most formats.
Why Cleveland Guardians Prospect Travis Bazzana Deserves Fantasy Attention
Bazzana is an intriguing prospect, and while there are some managers who are reluctant to add young players off the wire, this infielder deserves your attention. Bazzana has hit .200 over his last 20 at-bats during the past week, but he racked up a homer, two RBI, four runs scored, and five stolen bases.
Bazzana needs to prove he can handle big-league pitching on a steady basis to remain a valuable fantasy contributor, but he’s proving to be a multi-category contributor during his first taste of MLB action.
It’s too early to judge whether Bazzana can hit MLB pitchers or not, but given that he delivers value on the basepaths and is already showing some pop in his bat, the worst you could do is take a flier on him and see how it goes.
Eduardo Rodriguez Offers Long-Term Pitching Value for the Arizona Diamondbacks
Rodriguez made two starts in the previous week and posted dominant numbers, posting back-to-back quality starts and racking up 11 strikeouts, albeit with six walks, across 15.1 innings.
Rodriguez posted an ERA higher than 5.00 in each of his first two seasons with the Diamondbacks, but he’s turning things around in 2026, and his latest start was an absolute gem. He tossed 8.1 innings of one-run ball against the Mets, albeit with only four strikeouts, which isn’t really ideal from a fantasy perspective.
Still, Rodriguez now owns a 2.25 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 48 innings this season, and while he’s lined up for just one start in the coming week, it’ll be against the Rockies at Coors Field on Saturday. Not ideal, but Rodriguez has done enough to be considered a worthy wire pickup for the long term, even if his immediate next matchup isn’t ideal.
