Spencer Torkelson Leads 4 Waiver Wire Targets to Bolster Your Fantasy Baseball Lineups

Knowing how to manage the waiver wire is absolutely critical to have success in fantasy baseball, because one player who’s red-hot can often be the difference maker in an individual matchup, or even more. If you’re looking to bolster your lineup in season-long formats through the waiver wire, here are four players you should consider adding for the week between April 27 and May 3.

Why Ildemaro Vargas is a Top Waiver Wire Target

Vargas has been putting up excellent numbers of late, highlighted by the fact that he’s smacked four homers and posted an OPS of 1.409 over the last seven days. Vargas has never produced an OPS+ above 100 in a season since debuting in 2017, yet he’s hitting an impressive .367/.383/.722 with six home runs, 20 RBIs, and 18 runs through 20 games so far.

Vargas is rostered in around 40% of leagues, so he has a good chance of being available in your league.

Spencer Torkelson’s Recent Power Surge in Detroit Makes Him an Excellent Waiver Pickup

There are some fantasy managers who trusted Torkelson since the beginning of the season, and if you continued to roster him throughout his slow start to the season, you’re being rewarded now. The slugging first baseman is on a blistering run of five consecutive games with a home run after going 3-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run during Detroit’s 8-3 win over Cincinnati on Sunday.

Torkelson has five homers while hitting .391 with a 1.636 OPS over the last seven days, and since he’s rostered in less than 45% overall, he could be an excellent contributor if your offense is slumping.

Why Nathan Church is a Hot Waiver Wire Option in Fantasy Baseball

If you’re looking to add a red-hot hitter who’s swinging a hot bat, maybe there’s not a better option out there than Church. The Cardinals outfielder has three homers over his last two games, and even though he only has five homers on the year, it’s impossible to overlook what he’s been doing of late.

Church is riding a five-game hitting streak and has reached base in nine straight contests, a span in which he’s hitting .406 with a 1.257 OPS, four homers, eight RBIs, seven runs scored, and three stolen bases across 36 plate appearances. Church is rostered in less than 10% of leagues overall, so he’s someone to definitely keep on your radar.

What to Expect from Chase Dollander As a Potential Waiver Wire Pickup

Dollander made his first start of the season in Sunday’s doubleheader against the Mets and posted an impressive stat line, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven shutout innings. More importantly, Dollander appears to be fully stretched out after tossing 105 pitches in this outing against the Mets, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he stays in the rotation of a struggling Colorado team.

Over seven appearances spanning 32 innings, Dollander has a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 39:9 K:BB this season. Considering that Dollander is rostered in less than 45% of leagues, he’s someone to target off the wire, although he has a tough matchup against the Braves in his projected next outing.
